Terrebonne drops lawsuit against

Terrebonne Parish is no longer fighting a lawsuit levied against it by Vanguard Environmental LLC over the construction of an injection well used for the disposal of oil waste water within the city limits of Houma.

Vanguard sued Terrebonne over a parish ordinance prohibiting the company from building the well within 500 feet of a home or school, despite being allowed by state law.

The parish has spent over $91,000 fighting the construction of the well in courts, but has repeatedly lost cases on appeal.

The case would have cost the parish $35,000 to continue, according to Parish President Michel Claudet.

Instead, the case will be pursued by We Can Guard Houma, a private environmental group. The Lemmon Law Firm will represent them for only the cost of the filing fee, which is $400.
