1 dead, 1 critically injured in overnight Thibodaux shooting

One was killed, another was critically injured in an overnight shooting in Thibodaux.

No suspect is in custody, as of Sunday morning.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said that detectives are investigating the shooting, which occurred in the area of Abby Subdivision in Thibodaux.

Just after 2:15 a.m. this morning, LPSO was called multiple times regarding reports of gunshots in the subdivision.

Deputies responded and found a car in the 400 block of Abby Road, which had been damaged by multiple gunshot rounds.

Deputies started the search the nearby area and found a man lying in a field with at least one gunshot wound.

That man, who is not being identified by authorities at this time, was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, deputies made contact with a second man nearby who had gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.

LPSO detectives, Louisiana State Police and Thibodaux Police responded to the scene to assist. Through investigation, detectives learned two other men were in the car and those individuals are currently being questioned in reference to the incident.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence. At least one nearby home was struck by stray rounds, but no injuries were reported at the residence. Detectives are encouraging residents in the immediate and surrounding areas to check their homes for possible damage from stray rounds.
