Dr. Sarah Bergeron and Nicholls Physics Professor Dr. Chadwick Young, last year’s awardee, both received their awards at the conference on Nov. 2. Former BTNEP Director Susan Testroet-Bergeron, Dr. Begeron’s mother, was awarded the Claudia Fowler Distinguished Service to Science Education Lifetime Achievement Award from LSTA on the same night.

Following a ground breaking ceremony for an all-new Coastal Center on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Nicholls State University officials announced plans for a new nursing building coming to campus soon.
"There is not a need all over the country for coastal restoration. There is not even a need all over the state. But there is definitely a need here, in Lafourche Parish, for a Coastal Center," said Governor John Bel Edwards. We are so excited for this new development."
“This ceremony is important because it highlights the camaraderie that veterans have with each other. You can see some of them in the crowd during the program and see how proud they are to see other veterans surrounding them. Opening it to the community solidifies that camaraderie,” said Gilberto Burbante, coordinator of Veterans Services at Nicholls.
The concert will feature dance music influenced by cultures from across the globe, including the Caribbean, Argentina, Japan, Hungary, Africa, and many more places.
Nicholls Night of Poets II is set to take place this November as part of Nicholls’ 75th anniversary--Faculty and friends of the university will read original poetry accompanied by picture presentations to enhance the listening experience.

The Calypseaux Expedition was established as a departmental retreat with the first year cohort of the Nicholls Master’s of Science program in marine and environmental biology, and it has occurred annually since then at different estuarine sites including Grand Isle, LUMCON, Bayou Chevreuil and even the Nicholls Farm.
