A fugitive who led police on a chase throughout Thibodaux Sunday morning is dead of injuries sustained when he crashed a stolen SUV into a house in Schriever.

Carwin Scott, 28, was wanted for attempted murder and other charges in connection with a drug-related shooting on Calumet Street in Thibodaux on April 23, 2016 that wounded 23-year-old Randy Joseph Himel.

Scott himself was shot during the incident at Himel’s house and he has been sought ever since.

Sunday morning, Thibodaux Police Chief Brian Zeringue said, officers got an anonymous tip that Scott was in town. Uniformed officers responded to Canal Boulevard near School Street. As they spoke with the owner of the black SUV Scott, Zeringue said, took off in it.

“He refused to stop,” Zeringue said as he recounted the route officers took in pursuit, including Sanders and Iris streets, South Acadia Drive and Percy Brown Drive.

Louisiana State Police and deputies from Lafourche Parish joined in the chase, as Scott traveled south on La. 24. He lost control of the vehicle in Schriever, Zeringue said. An elder woman living inside the house that he struck was uninjured.

At the time Scott and Himel were shot, police said, the latter had more than 1,800 grams of marijuana in his home valued at $11,000 along with quantities of Xanax and other prescription pills.
