Welcome back to school! An apple for the teacher, you say? How about picking up a few more at the grocery for this fun activity?

This edible engineering project uses apples to construct towers. While an adult should do the cutting, all ages can build the towers. Challenge your children to see who can build the tallest or strongest tower.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Apples
  • Toothpicks
  • Knife

WHAT TO DO

STEP 1
To prepare your building blocks, slice the apples into relatively small pieces.
STEP 2
Give the stack of apple blocks and the toothpicks to your engineer.
STEP 3
Start building!

Tips:
• Encourage your young engineers to build a solid base and then build up.
• If a few “building blocks” disappear into hungry bellies, don’t worry! Just cut up another apple.
