Leray T. Vito, 43, of Verrett Street in Houma, may have ultimately intended to buy the world a Coke, but his attempt to swipe money from a soda machine landed him in jail on criminal charges, Houma Police reported.

Officers responded to a business burglary shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at a business in the 7500 block of Main Street. They encountered Vito, kneeling next to a damaged Coke machine, attempting to hide from police, Police Chief Dana Coleman said.
