A Lafourche Parish School Board member has resigned from his seat on the board – just months after a felony arrest.

Robby Gisclair announced his resignation on Wednesday night at a regularly scheduled meeting. There was an agenda item to discuss Gisclair’s place on the board at the meeting after he’d been arrested on charges of felony theft on Sept. 4.

Gisclair allegedly stole several thousands of dollars worth of items from his former employer in the incident.

At the meeting, Gisclair addressed the board and said that he’s “fully settled” the issue with his former employer, but there is a pending legal issue regarding the case that still needs to be settled.

Gisclair said he made the decision to resign after consulting with his family and his attorney.

The school board member was in his first term. He defeated incumbent Ann Sanamo to earn his position.

“I, along with my family and my attorney, have decided that my continued involvement as a school board member does not seem to be in the best interest for our school board members, our school district, my family or myself. So with that being said, I resign from the Lafourche Parish School Board effective immediately.”
