History buffs and those interested in the Great War should head to Nicholls State University on Monday.

The university is hosting a special viewing of documents and artifacts related to the Bayou Region’s war efforts during World War I. The event is free and open to the public and runs from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom in the Student Union.

The reception includes items such as the Elks Lodge 1918 parade flag. Nicholls’ Ellender Memorial Library and the Regional Military Museum in Houma are providing the items for the display.

The viewing in the Student Union coincide with a special exhibit at the Ellender Library honoring the centennial of the United States entrance into World War I. The exhibit also features items from Nicholls archives and the military museum including photos, scrapbooks, documents, uniforms, bayonets, a German trench mortar and more. The exhibit will run through January 2018 every weekday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the library’s special collections department.
