T-Bois Bridge curfew to end

Lafourche Parish is placing the T-Bois Bridge under temporary curfews to alleviate traffic in Larose.

During the curfew, the bridge will stay down and will only be open to vehicular traffic. The curfew will last from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

The curfews are intended to improve traffic flow in Larose as a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development contractor works on the West Larose Vertical Lift Bridge. The contractor, C.E.C. Inc., is performing structural installations and repairs on the bridge. The repairs are part of a $24 million rehabilitation project to replace mechanical and electric systems, build a heavier fender system, perform structural repairs and clean and repaint surfaces on the bridge. C.E.C. is set to finish the current phase this week, with the total project slated for completion in the fall of 2019.

Lafourche spokesman Doug Cheramie said the curfews are meant to help workers and students get to their destinations on time.

“They did the curfew to keep the T-Bois in the down position at that time because there’s school bus traffic and people going to work from 6 to 9 (a.m.), and 2 to 5 (p.m.) also has school bus traffic and heavier traffic in the afternoons,” he said.

The West Larose Lift Bridge will a continuous daily closure from 7 a.m. through Friday at 5 p.m. •
