Citizens of Thibodaux are being asked to boil their water until at least Sunday.

The city announced late Thursday night that a boil water advisory has been issued for residents, and it will remain in place for at least the next 48 hours to allow for sampling.

According to the release issued by city government, the advisory was because of a drastic loss of water pressure within the area late this evening.

The sampling is being conducted by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, and they will determine when the water can be deemed fully safe to drink or use again without boiling.

Residents within the area are asked to boil water for at least a minute in a clean container when going through the process. City officials say the minute time frame should begin once water is at a full boil.
