BROWN RESIGNS, ADAMS TAKES OVER AT THIBODAUX

A Thibodaux native will be leading the Thibodaux High School girls basketball team for the time being after the woman expected to be the coach stepped down just days before the season.

Folks close to the Lady Tigers girls’ basketball program confirmed to The Times last week that Robbie Brown had stepped down from her post a couple weeks before the start of the season – just months after being hired this past summer.

In Brown’s absence, former Nicholls player and E.D. White graduate Ashley Adams will take over the team as interim head coach.

Adams has been an assistant coach with the team for the past few seasons, but she’s never had head coaching experience.

The Lady Tigers opened the season with a loss at South Lafourche – a game the Lady Tigers led early on.

There is no word on whether Adams will serve as head coach throughout the season or whether she will chase the job full-time once the year ends.

E.D. WHITE WINS STATE GOLD

The E.D. White swim teams just may own the pool at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.

The Lady Cardinals won the Division III State Championship this weekend – the third-straight title for the program that’s dominated for the past decade in swimming.

On the boys’ side, E.D. White scored a runner-up finish, finishing behind St. Louis, who won the title.

E.D. White had countless top finishers in the meet, which allowed the teams to accumulate points.

On the girls’ side, Lindsey Lucas won the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle. The Lady Cardinals also won the relay title in the 400-yard free.

In the boys’ meet, Grant DeGravelle won an individual state title after winning the 100-yard freestyle.

ADAMS WINS AT STATE MEET

Terrebonne senior Alec Adams went out with a bang.

The decorated Tigers swimmer ended his prep career this past weekend at the LHSAA State Swimming Championships, and he accomplished the goals he set out for himself at the beginning of the year.

Adams won the State Championship in the 200-yard freestyle and also the 100-yard butterly, racking up valuable points for Terrebonne, which allowed the Tigers to finish fourth overall in the team meet.

Adams said before the season that winning a state championship would be the only fitting end to his prep career.

Well, he won two, and will now head to the collegiate ranks to continue his career.

TARPONS, LADY TARPONS SCORE TOP FINISHES

No South Lafourche swimmer won a state championship this year.

But several were awfully close.

The Tarpons and Lady Tarpons both finished in the Top 10 at the State Championships this past weekend, which were held in Sulphur.

The teams had strength in numbers with several swimmers competing throughout the meet.

For the Tarpons boys, the 200-yard medley relay team finished fifth in the state, led by Brady Levron, Ben Berthelot, Mason Dufrene and Scotty Bouzigard.

Dufrene also was solid in an individual event, placing third in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard fly.

In the girls meet, several Lady Tarpons also shined.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Alanna Smith finished fourth. She also was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

The South Lafourche boys finished No. 7 in the state, while the Lady Tarpons finished No. 8.

E.D. WHITE FALLS TO STM

E.D. White didn’t have much luck, either.

The Cardinals fell 56-7 at St. Thomas More on Friday night, ending their season with a 4-8 record overall.

E.D. White struggled throughout the game, surrendering big plays to the state powerhouse in both the running and passing game.

The loss marked the second-straight season St. Thomas More knocked E.D. White out of the bracket.

“They’re so balanced,” E.D. White coach Chris Bergeron said. “They really mix things up very well and keep themselves out in front of the chains.”

With the loss, it marked the final game for E.D. White’s senior class.

It’s also the team’s final football game as a Class 3A school, as the Cardinals will move to Class 4A next fall.
