A 33-year-old Thibodaux convicted felon is charged with multiple offenses after a stop last night.

At around 6:15 p.m. on Monday night, deputies with Lafourche’s Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Squad were traveling on Carol Street in Thibodaux when they detected a strong odor of marijuana that was believed to be coming from a parked car in a nearby driveway.

Authorities said they noticed Kendall Mathews, 33, of Thibodaux sitting in the passenger seat of the car, and deputies knew Mathews had multiple warrants for his arrest.

As deputies began approaching the car, Matthews allegedly exited and started to flee on foot.

Authorities said they caught Mathews, and took him into custody.

During a search, authorities said they also found a marijuana cigarette, which they said Matthews dropped when trying to flee.

Matthews has been booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on active warrants for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of firearms with an obliterated number, theft, simple criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also charged with possession of marijuana (third offense) and resisting an officer.

His bond is set at $94,000, but he’s being held by the Louisiana Probation and Parole Board.
