Bobby Jindal’s latest attack on retirees is to do away with state income tax and add to state sales taxes. Be aware that the state income tax does not tax Social Security income. It also does not tax state, municipal or parish employees’ retirement income or retired teachers’ income, as these people do not receive Social Security income.
Higher sales taxes would leave these people with even less money to spend on necessities.
Municipalities, parishes and school systems have depended on sales taxes to support their services to the citizens of this state. They will be greatly hurt by this increase in state sales tax collections because citizens will not likely vote for more sales taxes or for renewal of current taxes. Again, Jindal proposes taking care of the wealthy at the expense of the majority of Louisiana’s citizens.
Contact your state representatives and senators and tell them not to go along with Jindal on this plan. Unite and challenge him on this.
