An illegal alien living in Houma is in the custody on charges of Internet crimes against children.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said Jose Juan Hernandez, 42, is facing the charges after an arrest earlier this week.

Landry said the case shows the need for tighter border security – an issue that’s being debated and negotiated by President Donald Trump and Congress.

Landry said the state arrests several illegal aliens a year.

“Yet again, our office has arrested another illegal immigrant accused of exploiting children,” Landry said. “This man who should not be in our country has been picked up for possessing and distributing pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13.”

Hernandez, 42, was living in Houma at the time of his arrest. He is charged with one count of pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13 (distribution) and 17 counts of pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13 (possession).

The arrest was a result of a joint investigation with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unite, Homeland Security Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Hernandez was booked in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and a detainer was placed on him by ICE.

General Landry said President Trump’s border wall, in his estimation, would ease these issues.

“Too many Louisiana families have become victims of crime because of our Southern border in name only,” explained General Landry. “So I again urge the Congress to support President Trump, build the wall, and help us make our communities safer.”
