Reader: Gun control is needed

Dear Editor,

Thank you for your calm and well-reasoned editorial on gun control. My family and I agree completely.

I am a lifelong hunter and shooter, but I recently resigned from a 42-year membership in the NRA because of their unreasonable stance on even the mildest solutions to our gun problem. The fact remains: no private citizen NEEDS a military-style semi-auto rifle. They are an unreasonable danger to the rest of us. Even when the owner is no threat, their weapon can be stolen by a criminal or mentally ill person and do terrible damage (see Sandy Hook).

Too bad our Louisiana representatives in Washington, D.C., are too cowed by the NRA to stand up to this problem.
