Rockin’ Boogie Blues

Lorna and Bernadette are at it again.
The South Louisiana Casting and Production Company unveils its annual theatre production Aug. 31. This year’s show, “Rockin’ Boogie Blues” asks its audience for a nostalgic submission: “Let us take you back … once again.”
Evening shows begin at 8 p.m. on Aug. 31, Sept. 1, 6, 7 and 8, and matinees start at 2 p.m. on Sept. 2 and 9. Dinner is served at the evening shows at 7 p.m., and lunch comes with the matinees at 1 p.m.
The production is staged at Courtyard by Marriott, 142 Library Blvd., Houma. Tickets cost $60, and reservations can be made by calling (985) 227-7574.
Young ones tour Teche
Sept. 8-9
Prior to conducting the third-annual Tour du Teche, organizers are inviting young paddlers between the ages of 5 and 17 to race along Bayou Teche.
Races start at Breaux Bridge. Distances range from 250 yards to 1 mile, and ribbons and certificates are given to those who win and participate.
Petit Tour Du Teche is divided into five age divisions (5-7 years old, 8-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17) and six classes, which distinguish between solo and tandem, single and double blade and kayaks less than 13.5 feet in length.
Races start at 9 a.m. both days following pre-race ceremonies at 8:30.
Registration costs $15 per paddler and includes unlimited races. To sign up, visit www.tourduteche.com. Registration closed last month, but late registration is accepted Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 from 6 to 8 a.m.
Tour du Teche III, a set of races for canoes, kayaks and pirogues, is scheduled for next month. It stretches the entire length – 135 miles– of Bayou Teche over three days.
Life@50+ comes to NOLA

Who says the older crowd can’t throw down?
AARP has selected the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in downtown New Orleans to host its annual national event and expo, called Life@50+.
Retired Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, retired tennis player Martina Navratilova and sportscaster James “J.B.” Brown kick off the event Sept. 20 with a day of service called “New Orleans Reimagined.” More than 1,500 volunteers are expected to visit 15 locations to offer service and support to the New Orleans community.
More than 300 exhibitors targeting the 50-and-older demographic are featured in a hall covering 330,000 square feet.
The three-day expo also features its annual Movies for Grownups Film Festival, fitness class, a technology and innovation showcase and live music performances by in addition to local acts like Kermit Ruffins and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Grammy Award-winners Melissa Etheridge, Gladys Knight and Stevie Nicks close the expo with a special event. Tickets for the performace, which cost extra, are available through Ticketmaster.
The event attracted more than 20,000 attendees last year in Los Angeles. Admission costs $25 for AARP members and $35 for non-members. Registration is open online at www.aarp.org/events or by phone at (800) 883-2784.
Music, arts and cars showcased in New Orleans

ILive music, exhibited art and classic cars are on display in New Orleans Sept. 28-29 at the NOLA Downtown Music & Arts Festival.
The Cruisin’ New Orleans Specialty Car Show is a new addition to the 2-year-old festival. It features antiques, classics and hot-rods at least 25 years old. The showcase is hosted in New Orleans’ Downtown Development District near Gallier Hall and Lafayette Square.
Artists exhibit photography, painting, sculpture, glass, beauty products, candles and more.
Those interested in exhibiting can apply through Sept. 17.
A current list of musicians wasn’t immediately available, but roots, zydeco, latin rock, school funk, jazz, R&B gospel and creole rock are among the genres.
