Deacon Edward J. “Muss” Blanchard, 79, a resident and native of Raceland, LA., died at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007.


Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday at Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Raceland and from 8 to 12 p.m. Monday at Saint Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church. Mass will take place at noon Monday at Saint Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church, with burial in the St. Mary’s cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Neddie Blanchard; his sons, Shane Edward Blanchard, Orland Louis Blanchard and wife, Mary, Keith Edward Blanchard and wife, Kathy, Eric Joseph Blanchard and wife, and Merna Adrian John Blanchard and wife, Suzy; his daughters, Robyn White and husband, Randy, Leslie Robichaux and husband, Randy, and Tana Foret and husband, Barry; his brother, Marvin Blanchard; his sister, Lillie Badeau; his grandchildren, Kellie, Reuben, Jude, Hope, and Amber Blanchard, Lillian Dardar, Crystal and Summer Robichaux, and Joshua and Jordan Foret; and his great grandchildren, Kaitlin Rose Dardar and Chaislyn Anne Blanchard.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Orland Joseph and Lucille Margaret Blanchard; his grandson, Zachary Foret; his great grandson, Mitchell Blanchard; his brother, Orland Blanchard Jr.; and his sister, Hazel Gaudet.


He was ordanined Deacon on December 21, 1980 and was a parishoner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He served in the US Marine Corps. and the US Army Air Force.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 349, a past Commander and Chaplian, a member of 40/8 of Raceland Charter, a Grand Knight of K-C Council 4761, a past faithful Navigator of 4th Degree K-C, President of the LA. Society for Cripple Children(Lafourche Chapter), a past Grand Marshall in 2003, a pastorial Council at St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Grandparent Club at St. Mary’s School, and a past Cub Master of the Boy Scouts of America.

His was an avid fisherman, hunter and vegetable gardener. He loved visiting and bringing the the Euchcrist to the elderly.

He was also the owner of Blanchard Office Machines for 25+ years.
