A Galliano man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty earlier this week of possession with intent to distribute meth and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
Trapper Pellegrin, 41, was originally arrested on a traffic stop for driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia after the Golden Meadow Police Department stopped the vehicle he was driving for not having an illuminated license plate as the law requires.
Pellegrin was transported to the Galliano substation where a search was conducted of him. During that search, just over 20 grams of meth was discovered in his undergarments.
The suspect stood trial for the charges earlier this week and was found guilty.
His sentencing was today, December 13.
He received 10 year sentences per charge, but they’ll be served concurrently.
“Ten years is the max sentence allowed under state law on each of the charges brought against the defendant, so we’re very pleased with the Judge’s decision,” said Assistant District Attorney S. Benjamin Caillouet, who prosecuted the case.
Pellegrin was sentenced by the Honorable Stephen Miller.
