Cookies are just a couple of clicks away from delivery.

For cookie lovers, the highly anticipated Girl Scout Cookie season is almost here.

Thin Mints, Somoas and Tagalongs sales begin Jan. 16 and end March 15. New to this year’s stock is a gluten-free cookie called Toffee-Tastic.

For folks who may not want to chase down the girls at the local supermarkets, the program is launching their online sale program.

“It is something that the girls had been interested in doing, as technology has increased,” Girl Scouts Louisiana East Vice President of Marketing Marianne Addy said. “The idea is to take the sales to another level. Girls today are digital natives. They are on smarts phones and doing power points in elementary school now. It is a natural extension for them to offer the sales online and via email.”

Addy added that the online method is great way for grandparents and relatives who may not live near to help out.

“The main idea is to sell locally, but a girl’s family and friends are not just confined to their own town,” she said.

The girls will be able to fully customize their websites and track their sales in real time. The girls’ parents will monitor transactions to ensure that everything is done smoothly and safely.

The Girl Scouts of America have launched several programs over the last few years to help embrace 21st century technology including a mobile app that locates where local girls may be selling by simply entering a zip code and also using credit card readers on mobile devices.

For folks who would rather stick to the door-to-door delivery method, girls will still make deliveries for folks who so choose.

“It is really going to enhance the sale and not replace it because people are still going to want to have their cookies delivered to them. They don’t want to pay for shipping,” Addy said. “When they see us in front of Wal Mart or other grocery stores, they want them delivered a lot of times.”
