The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced openings in the Introductory Trapping Course to be held this Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Houma. The free class will be held at the Terrebonne Parish Rifle Range. All materials will be provided, as well as lunch on site.

LDWF is hosting trapping workshops in partnership with the Louisiana Trappers and Alligator Hunters Association. The workshop will run from about 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon on Saturday.

A classroom portion will cover Louisiana laws and regulations related to trapping and review various trapping tools. Trapping demo rotations will be held outdoors and will cover foothold sets for coyote, fox, bobcat, various sets for raccoons, and water sets for beaver, otter, nutria, etc. There will be a hands-on portion to practice setting traps safely. The workshop will conclude with a skinning demo.

Space is limited, and pre-registration online is required. Wear clothing appropriate to the weather. For more information, contact Tanya Sturman at tsturman@wlf.la.gov. The Terrebonne Parish Rifle Range is located at 2100 Savanne Rd., in Houma.
