Two men are in the custody of the Houma Police Department – charged with murder in the weekend shooting death of Aaron Stearns.

On May 11, 2019, HPD was called to reports of a victim having been shot in the 400 Block of Roselawn Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located Stearns suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local medical facility via ambulance and he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

The investigation is in its infancy and HPD says it still doesn’t know motive for the shooting at this time, but they were able to quickly identify Xavier Hite, 21, and Antyree Robinson, 21, as suspects.

At 11 p.m. on Saturday night, HPD received information that the suspects were within an apartment in the 3600 block of Friendswood Drive. Members of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and HPD then responded to that location.

Upon arrival, officers found evidence of someone being inside the residence, but they were unable to make contact with anyone.

Later that evening and into the early morning hours on Sunday, contact was made with Hite and after talking with him, he surrendered without incident.

A search warrant was then obtained at the location where Hite was located and upon a search, a black semi-automatic handgun was located. It is believed to be one of the weapons used in the murder.

Hite was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail and was booked on one count of second-degree murder without incident.

Authorities spent Sunday looking for Robinson.

At 4:40 p.m., he turned himself into HPD investigators without incident.

He, too, is charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Through questioning, authorities were able to learn that an altercation took place just before the victim was shot, but what led up to that altercation is still not clear. HPD said it may release further details at a later date.
