A Houma suspect allegedly attempted to race a police car at a traffic light.

After being pulled over, authorities found drugs and a loaded weapon in the vehicle.

On Feb. 26 at around 1 a.m., an unmarked Houma Police Department vehicle was stopped at a redlight near the intersection of Prospect and Main Street.

While the officer waited for the light to turn green, a 2004 Toyota Corolla pulled alongside the police car.

Authorities said when the light turned green, the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed, as if the cars would be racing, which caused officers to conduct a traffic stop.

During the stop, HPD officers identified the driver as Josh Haught, 24, and officers said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Officers then searched the vehicle and they located 17 grams of marijuana, Xanax tablets, methamphetamine, a loaded .22-caliber magnum revolver and a digital scale for weighing narcotics.

Haught was arrested without incident and is charged with excessive acceleration, no driver’s license, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (Xanax), possession of drug paraphernalia and also an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.
