A 25-year-old Gretna man is in custody of the Thibodaux Police after what authorities claim was a dating site meet-up that turned into an alleged armed robbery.

On Feb. 12 just before 4:30 a.m., TPD was called to Martin Luther King Park in reference to an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, authorities learned that the suspect, later identified as Kareem Acker, 25, of Gretna, attempted to flee the scene, but his vehicle became stuck in mud.

The suspect was ordered out of the vehicle by cops, but he refused to fully comply.

The suspect, instead, continued to go back into the vehicle, where he retrieved a firearm, which he tried to hide in the mud away from authorities’ sight.

The suspect then surrendered to police at which time, he was also found to be in possession of multiple prescription narcotics.

Authorities then fished out the loaded firearm, learned it to be stolen and then discovered that Acker is a convicted felon, immediately taking him into custody.

Authorities talked to the victim and learned that the two of them met on a dating site and agreed to meet.

Acker then drove from Gretna, picked up the victim in Terrebonne Parish and then took the victim to Thibodaux.

Authorities say he then pulled a pistol on the victim and demanded his purse, cash and cell phone. The victim stated the cash was surrendered, but not his cell phone. The victim told TPD that Acker tried to flee the scene, but got stuck in mud, which allowed the victim to call police.

The suspect denied the allegation of the armed robbery. He allegedly admitted to meeting the victim on a dating site, which led to the in-person meeting.

The suspect said the money given to him was willfully done so. Acker also said that the dispute occurred because he was under the impression that the victim was a female and not a male and that when he learned that, he kicked the victim out of his car and sped off.

Based on evidence obtained at the scene, authorities arrested Acker, charging him with armed robbery (felony), illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a CDS (felony), illegal possession of a stolen firearm (felony), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony) and possession of Valium (felony).

The suspect is held on a $335,000 bond.

Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced the arrest of Kareem Acker (B/M, 25 of Gretna, LA.), for Armed Robbery (Felony), Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a CDS (Felony), Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony) & Possession of Valium (Diazepam) (Felony).

Based on evidence obtained during the investigation, Mr. Acker was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, where he remains on a $335,000.00 Bond.
