A fugitive wanted in Georgia was arrested in Lafourche Parish this past week during a traffic stop, which led to additional charges because of the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

At around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, LPSO deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along La. Highway 316 in Bayou Blue.

Deputies made contact with the driver, who initially gave a false name to authorities, but who was later identified as Elijah Jackson Jr., 49.

Authorities on the scene noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and once they got Jackson’s true identity, they learned that he had warrants for his arrests in Terrebonne Parish and also Gwinnett County in Georgia.

Authorities searched Jackson’s vehicle and he was found to be in possession of small amounts of suspected marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and several types of pills, as well as counterfeit money.

Jackson was arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, charged with possession of marijuana (third and subsequent offenses), as well as possession of cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, Diazepam, Alprazolam and drug paraphernalia.

He is also charged with monetary instrument abuse, resisting an officer, no driver’s license and improper lane usage.

His bond is set at $51,500 for the Lafourche Parish charges.

He is also being held on a felony forgery charge in Georgia and warrants for drug possession in Terrebonne.
