The former president of a local youth sports league is accused of taking thousands of dollars out of a league account and using it for personal purchases.
Blaine Curole, 40, is facing charges after turning himself in on Monday and posting a $10,000 bond.
He’s charged with one count of felony theft.
Curole’s arrest comes after he served as the President of the Larose-Cut Off Baseball League from 2015-2017. During that time, he opened a bank account for the league at a local bank branch and was reportedly the only person with access to the account.
In Dec. 2017, Curole turned over financial records to the league’s Board of Directors and they found several discrepancies, including more than $16,000 in debit card charges at various stores, restaurants and gas stations, which was not the intended use of the funds.
There were also checks cashed for $3,600 with no explanation.
The board met with Curole in Jan. 2018 and disclosed their findings and the suspect allegedly admitted to using the account for personal use, requesting that the board give him the total he owed and time to pay it back.
The board complied with that request, but Curole did not make the payments, which led the board to contact LPSO to pursue charges.
As part of the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the league bank account and authorities investigated and found nearly $40,000 in discrepancies with the account during the time Curole had access to it.
In March, authorities met with Curole in an effort to speak with him about the charges and they asked he bring in receipts to validate the charges.
After several days, Curole made no attempt to contact or meet with detectives, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday, he turned himself in on the charge of felony theft.
