Jansen Simon, 30, of Cut Off, needed help.

It was Sunday morning. He was traveling with friends and they left him on the side of the road in the middle of the summer heat.

So Simon allegedly flagged for help, signaling to a deputy in Raceland.

But there was a problem.

Authorities quickly learned that Simon was wanted for his alleged role in a violent crime, quickly taking him into custody.

On July 16, LPSO deputies said they were alerted by Simon in Raceland.

Authorities said the man claimed to have been stranded by friends on the side of the road.

LPSO verified Simon’s identity, then took him into immediate custody, learning that he had three warrants for aggravated second-degree battery and two counts of contempt of court for an incident which took place in 2013.

On Aug. 3, 2013, authorities said they were called to a complaint outside of a bar on La. Highway 308 in Cut Off in reference to two men who had been arguing.

Authorities learned through investigation that as the argument intensified, Simon allegedly struck the other man with a hammer, then fled the scene.

Authorities said the victim had a fractured skull in the incident.

Warrants were obtained for Simon’s arrest, but he remained at large – almost four years after the incident.

Now in custody, he’s being held without bond.
