A Houma man is in custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for allegedly raping a small child.

Detectives received a complaint on March 29 from a concerned citizen who told authorities that a child under the age of 10 was being raped by an older man.

Detectives interviewed a parent of the small female child. The parent was unaware of the allegations.

After speaking with the parent, a forensic interview was conducted with the child and she allegedly described details of the sexual abuse.

Authorities learned that there were multiple alleged encounters in the last month and that the perpetrator was Jon Michael Jones, 45, of 295 Carlos St., Houma. He is an acquaintance of the victim’s family.

The same night at about 8 p.m., authorities contacted Jones at his residence and took him into custody for questioning.

Shortly after, he was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

He was booked into jail and is held on a $100,000 bond.
