A 30-year-old Harvey native is in custody after he allegedly stole from a lumber yard in Cut Off.

On Feb. 6, 2018, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Dufrene Building Materials in Cut Off in reference to an overnight burglary.

Investigators said they determined that entry was made into an office on the property and that several items were stolen, including tools, communication devices and computers – items which were valued at costing several thousands of dollars.

Surveillance cameras captured from the location showed a white male at the location and at that time, the photos were given to the public for help in the search.

Authorities received an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region which identified Cameron West, 30, of Harvey, as a possible suspect.

West already had an outstanding warrant in Lafourche for illegal possession of stolen things in reference to an incident in early 2018 in which he had allegedly pawned a stolen ring.

Through investigation, authorities were able to recover some of the items from the lumber yard burglary, including some items pawned in Metairie.

This led to a warrant for West’s arrest.

Authorities learned that West was out of state and LPSO started working with other jurisdictions to try and locate him.

On April 3, 2018, West was taken into custody in Pike County, Mississippi, and on April 10, he was moved to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

He is charged with simply burglary and illegal possession of stolen things. Bond is set at $25,300, but he is not eligible to be released because of a hold by the Louisiana Probation and Parole Board.
