A homeless Thibodaux man is in custody of the city’s police department after he allegedly attacked a woman.

What allegedly set him off?

The victim was trying to wake him up from a nap.

On June 13 at approximately 8:11 a.m., Chad Ayzinne, 26, homeless, and a victim went to a business in the 400 Block of North Canal Boulevard.

The victim allowed Ayzinne to stay in her green 2005 GMC Envoy while she went inside because he was asleep in the passenger seat.

When she returned, Ayzinne allegedly had moved to the driver’s seat and was asleep again.

The victim said she allegedly let the suspect sleep a little bit longer, but then tried to wake him up.

When this happened, Ayzinne allegedly became angry and threw an object at the victim, striking her in the chest.

Police said he then slammed the car door on the victim’s hand, then drove off in the vehicle without the victim’s permission.

The victim called TPD and officers actively started searching for the vehicle, which was eventually found abandoned in the parking lot of another business in the 500 block of Jackson Street.

Authorities then found Ayzinne walking on East 7th Street, taking him into custody without incident.

He’s charged with simply battery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and warrants for contempt of court and traffic offenses.

He’s held on a $30,500 bond.
