Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said a local woman was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle on Saturday night.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on that night, authorities were called to Birdies Food Mart on 301 La. Highway 20 in Schriever, in reference to vehicle theft.

Deputies arrived at the location and with the owner of a white-colored 2013 Chevy Impala. The victim said he went into the store and left his keys into his ignition. When he walked out of the store, he noticed his vehicle was gone.

The next afternoon, authorities were notified that the victim’s vehicle was located abandoned in a field near Al Joseph Lane in Schriever.

Deputies obtained surveillance video from the store that showed the suspect. Authorities then put the photos on Facebook and asked for public help.

Through that, authorities were able to identify Michelle Medice as a suspect.

On Sunday night, authorities went to Medice’s home and took her into custody without incident.

She is charged with automobile theft.

Medice is in the Terrebonne Parish Jail on $25,000 bond.
