A 30-year-old Schriever man is charged with 1st degree rape after Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies got hold of text messages exchanged between a young girl and a concerned friend.

TPSO deputies were called by the mother of a 13-year-old girl. She advised authorities on how a friend’s intervention caused her to question her child about the alleged incident.

Authorities learned that the child had been molested over a period of years by Christopher Ghoram, 30, of Schriever. TPSO’s Chief Criminal Deputy said authorities questioned the suspect and took him to the Terrebonne Parish Jail, booking him on the felony charge.

“Sheriff Larpenter and I are both very proud of how our deputies conducted themselves in this case,” Col. Daigre said. “We are also grateful that this girl’s friend was enough of a friend to alert her mother to her disclosures. The girl’s mother is to be commended as well for having faith in her once the allegations were disclosed. Anyone who believes a friend is being victimized by someone in this manner is doing the correct thing by letting someone know,” Daigre said.
