A 25-year-old Houma man has turned himself into the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after being wanted for attempted second-degree murder in a shooting on June 21.
Jalen Khylil Baker, 25, of Southdown West Boulevard, turned himself over to authorities yesterday where he was booked on a charge of attempted second-degree murder and stalking.
On June 21, after 9 p.m., deputies were called to a shooting in the parking lot of the Landing Apartments off MLK Boulevard in Houma.
Deputies arrived at this location and spoke with witnesses who heard a gunshot, but the victim, nor the suspect was located at this time.
There was a bullet casing recovered at the scene.
Shortly afterwards, TPSO received a call of a gunshot victim who arrived at a local hospital.
Authorities responded to the medical facility and contacted the 37-year-old man who said he was shot while sitting in his vehicle at the apartment complex.
The wound was non-life threatening.
Authorities developed Baker as a suspect quickly. It’s alleged that he was at the apartments looking for his ex-girlfriend, but did not find her. According to a witness, he confronted a male acquaintance of his ex-girlfriend and this is when the shooting occurred.
The victim then drove himself to the hospital for treatment.
Bond is set at $100,000 for Baker.
