THIBODAUX P.D. PRESS RELEASE
LOOSE DOG ATTACKS POLICE
DECEMBER 25, 2023

Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced that officers are on scene of an incident where law enforcement were forced to use lethal force on a loose dog.

This morning, December 25, 2023 shortly after 10:30 a.m., Thibodaux Police Department Officers on patrol pulled up on several vehicles and patrons on foot in the 600 block of North Canal Boulevard.

Upon further investigation after exiting his police cruiser, it was learned that a loose dog from a nearby neighborhood was running in and out of traffic on the roadway. Several patrons, motorists, the owner and the officer then attempted to corral the dog. During this time, the dog attacked the officer, biting him on the backside of his body. The dog then continued running wild toward other patrons. As the dog appeared to charge at another bystander, the officer was forced to discharge one gun shot striking the dog, ultimately causing the dog to succumb from the injury.

This incident remains under investigation and the officer was taken to a nearby medical facility to be treated for his injuries.

Chief Zeringue asks motorists to avoid this area until the scene can be cleared.
