A 51-year-old Houma business owner is in the custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for allegedly stealing a generator while the parish was in a State of Emergency during Hurricane Barry.
Col. Terry Daigre, TPSO’s Chief Criminal Deputy, said patrol units were called to Kenny Street at around 6 p.m. on Saturday. While there, they were told by a resident that a man who lived there until late last year and was known to her had gained entry into a structure attached to her residence and had tried to remove a generator that belonged to her.
The woman said the suspect allegedly tried to drag the generator away, but that she confronted him.
The suspect was identified as Earl A. Lirette III, 51, of Houma. Authorities responded to his place of business at 6240 West Park Avenue.
An attempt to contact the suspect was made, but he refused to open the locked doors of the business.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday and deputies again responded to the business and took him into custody for one count of looting.
Bond has been set at $10,000.
