A wanted suspect has been apprehended by the Thibodaux Police Department.

He had drugs and a weapon in his possession at the time of his arrest.

On Oct. 19 at approximately 8:46 p.m., TPD authorities witnessed a Chevy Impala turn without a signal at the intersection of School and Rock Street.

During a stop, an officer smelled suspected marijuana and a K-9 unit on scene confirmed the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, which led authorities to obtain a search warrant.

Authorities recovered the suspected marijuana, as well as 66 suspected Ecstasy pills. A loaded gun was also found in the vehicle during the search.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jamall Sims, 31, of 116 Ribbon Cane, Thibodaux, and they learned that multiple warrants were out for his arrest for several incidents which happened in the past.

On Dec. 11, 2016, Sims allegedly sent a text message to a victim who he had shared a relationship with, saying that he was going to beat her.

Sims allegedly went to the victim’s home off Bobby Street. A child that lives at the home opened the door for him and Sims allegedly proceeded to hover over a sleeping victim and beat her to the point of her needing to be taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

On Aug. 14, 2017, Sims allegedly wanted the victim to let him into her home on the 100 block of Ribbon Cane Drive to retrieve a gun he had hidden in the home when they were dating.

He told the victim where it was and she confirmed it was there, but still refused to let him into the home.

Sims then allegedly turned off the power in the home and broke in through a window, which caused a child in the home to be awoken.

The victim then took her child and locked themselves in a room for protection.

When the woman reemerged, she found Sims and the weapon gone.

Sims is charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana (third offense), possession with intent to distribute MDMA and no turn signal. He is also now booked on his warrants, which include domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, criminal mischief and simple criminal damage to property.

He is held on a $131,600 bond.
