Runners, take your marks. Raceland Upper Elementary’s 5K Fun Run returns March 21.

A perennial favorite, the fundraising run draws about 400 participants each year.

Event coordinator Tammy Plaisance, who doubles as the school’s secretary, expects this to be Raceland Upper Elementary’s largest race yet.

Joining the 5K Fun Run are Ochsner/St. Anne Hospital, which is conducting health screenings; the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, which is fingerprinting youngsters; and a local gym, which is supervising a warm-up session before the run.

The day’s fun also includes door prizes and a half-and-half raffle.

The fun run is held on the school’s grounds at 3759 La. Hwy. 308 in Raceland.

Registration is $18 per person. That price also includes a T-shirt and post-race refreshments. Racers who don’t want a shirt pay $10.

Top race finishers will receive prizes.

“All of the money raised stays on this campus,” Plaisance said. “It’s used to purchase classroom, instructional and supplemental materials for our students.”

Registration forms are available at any Raceland or Lockport school or at Rouse’s Supermarket and Ochsner/St. Anne Hospital.

Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m.; the race starts at 9 a.m.
