The Walker Family Band, anchored by the scarlet-haired quartet Redhead Express, brings an assortment of country-toned string instruments and infectious harmonies to Morgan City this month.

The Walkers hail from Alaska but make their hay playing in the Midwest. The band features a guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, bass and a combination of male and female baritone and tenor vocals tuned to an upbeat, Dixie-Chick-like sound.

Sisters Kendra, LaRae, Alisa and Meghan Walker comprise the Redhead Express. The group left Palmer, Alaska in 2007, finding a home in Branson, Mo., for a while before moving to Nashville, Tenn.

The group travels the country by motor home and plays about 200 shows a year. The performances are more than just music; the Redhead Express’ Branson background gives the band a theatrical spin every time they take the stage.

Sean, Joseph and Ammon are brothers to the Redhead Express and have started their own band with fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass and harmonies. They team up with the sisters for the coming tour, as do parents Apyrll and Brett, who contribute vocals, guitar and bass.

The family band has a prolific touring schedule, as evidenced by the 12 shows-in-12 days schedule starting Sept. 21 in St. Mary Parish. Season ticket packages, which include six shows, cost $45. For more information, call (985) 385-2307.

The concert is the first of six in the 2012-13 Morgan City Concert Series. Additional performances include “Tap: The Show” in October, A Far Cry of Boston in November and Masters of Motown in January 2013.
