“Louisiana’s Rockin’ Fiddler” Waylon Thibodeaux will be raising the roof while raising donations for the Annual American Cancer Society’s Party for a Cure Sunday, Aug. 22.

The party gets started at 2 p.m. at the Gheens Community Center at 1783 Highway 654 in Gheens. The fun won’t stop until the doors close at 6 p.m.

Thibodeaux began his professional career at the tender age of 13 and has refined his sound into a mixture of Cajun, Zydeco, country, Swamp Pop and rock n’ roll.

Only the most stubborn will be able to resist a turn on the dance floor when Thibodeaux takes the stage.

Also on tap will be plenty of food, a cash bar and loads of must-haves at the auction.

Proceeds benefit the non-profit American Cancer Society.

The Society says cancer is rapidly becoming a global pandemic. In 2007 about 12 million new cancer cases were diagnosed and there were about 7.6 million cancer deaths globally.

Cancer continues to be the second leading cause of death in the United States.

The American Cancer Society’s mission is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and service.

Advance tickets for the benefit are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Tickets at the door are $20 per person. For more information, call (985) 438-4701.
