Confunkshun, the Heroes of Funk in the 1980s, boogies into the Amelia Belle Casino April 16.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and benefits Teche Actions Clinics and Patterson High’s Athletic Tutorial Program.

Fans can expect to hear legendary guitarist and vocalist Michael Cooper – a Confunkshun founder – perform the band’s top hits: “Love’s Train,” “Shake ‘n’ Dance with Me,” “Ffun” and “So Easy.”

Former New Orleans Saint Dalton Hilliard and Bayou City Events are hosting the day’s event, which kicks off with a celebrity golf tournament.

“Teche Action Clinic and its staff have displayed proven commitment to providing quality, affordable healthcare to people of all ages in our community for the past 35 years,” Hilliard said.

Teche operates clinics in St. Mary, Terrebonne and surrounding parishes.

Hilliard, who graduated from Patterson High, remains loyal to his alma mater.

“This benefit also contributes to the expansion of the tutoring program there,” the former running back explained. “The program is set up to assist athletes who have fallen below average in their core subjects: math, English and science. The goal is to make the program available to all students who are deficient in those areas.”

To join the golf tourney, call Joe Notto at (985) 380-2263. Entry forms are also available online at KBZE 105.9FM’s Web site, www.kbze.com.

Celebrity golfers slated to play include former Saints Rickey Jackson, Eric Martin, Buford Jordan, Tyrone Hughes, John Fourcade and Michael “the Beer Man” Lewis, as well as former Patriot Kevin Faulk, former Packer Van Jakes, former Tigers Mickey Guidry and Charles Alexander and Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers.

Tickets to see Confunkshun are $30 in advance or $35 show night. Tickets are on sale at KBZE in Morgan City, and are available through Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle at (985) 992-0635 or Joe Notto at (985) 380-2262.
