“I take no offense if someone calls me a dressmaker, because that’s what I do,” famous designer Suzanne Perron said.

The LSU Museum of Art pays tribute to the university alumna in “Revealed: Exquisite Gowns by Suzanne Perron,” on display March 16 through July 28.

The exhibit features 13 bridal and Mardi Gras gowns designed by Perron between 2008 and 2013, including gowns worn by queens from some of the most recognized New Orleans krewes. Some of the bridal gowns were most recently illustrated in Perron’s book, “Designing in Ivory and White, published by LSU Press in 2012, with lavish color photographs taken by Jason Cohen.

“Making a gown for someone’s special occasion such as a Mardi Gras ball or a wedding is a different experience from making a dress for a model walking the runway for a few seconds,” the designer said. The exhibition follows the process from patternmaking and draping to sewing and beading.

Designer Suzanne Perron shows off her bridal and Mardi Gras gowns at the LSU Museum of Art through July 28.
