The Downtown Live After 5 concert series makes its return to the Houma Courthouse on Main Street March 30. Josh Garrett will perform from 5 to 7 p.m., and will be followed by Southern Cross from 7 to 10 p.m.

The concert series is held the last Friday of the month through November.

(Because of Thanksgiving, the final concert is held the last Wednesday of the month in November.)

Concert-goers are invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the free show, said event organizer Ann Picou.

“Our whole outlook is to get people downtown and, hopefully, they will flourish into the eateries and do some shopping while they are there,” she said.

The concert series continues to be a popular draw. “Each year, we get more and more people,” Picou said. “We are very fortunate for that. Each year we try to keep it family- oriented and everyone enjoys it.”

Downtown Live After 5 is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association and the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government.

Buquet Distributing Company will be on hand to sell beverages, and food vendors are also cooking up a selection of items.

The concert series is most known for attracting premium local talent.

Garrett is known in local music circles for his singing/songwriting/guitarist talents.

As the front man for Josh Garrett and the Bottomline, he’s gained a strong following across southern Louisiana.

Southern Cross, in the meantime, has garnered its share of fans. The five-member band lists among its greatest influences Journey, the Eagles, Rush, Allman Brothers and other southern greats.

According to the band’s Web site, they are “a well-oiled machine comprised of five rockers that can entertain the toughest critics! Whether you are a musician or a party animal, you are in for a surprise when these guys take the stage.”
