Eleven years ago, Marian Barker had an idea for a way to raise funds for the Bayou Lafourche Folklife & Heritage Museum in Lockport, where she serves as vice president.

She combined her ingredients: a hall adorned with fall décor, tables dressed in linens and fine china, a meal fit for a king and a fashion show with the latest styles. What she created was the Annual Fall Fling Luncheon and Style Show.

Retired Chef Richard Hebert has donated his time to create a menu that includes Thanksgiving clam chowder, Villa Montana baked ham with wild rice and more.

“Dessert will be served on three or four long tables. We’ll have every kind of dessert you can think of,” said Marge Barker, recording secretary for the museum’s board.

After the meal, sip white wine, a Mimosa or a flute of champagne while watching the style show.

“You’ll see the latest fashions for women and children provided by Pat’s of Chauvin,” Marge said.

“A lot of the husbands come with their wives, if they can drag themselves away from the Saints’ game. But since they’re not playing that day – they have no excuse,” she laughed.

Door prizes and a silent auction will also add to the merriment. The luncheon and style show are Sunday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m., at the American Legion Home Post 83 (921 Veterans St.) in Lockport. The $20 per person admission benefits the Bayou Lafourche Folklife & Heritage Museum.
