Luncheon to recognize area’s foster parents; More adults needed to provide homes to youths

May 18-20; 9th annual Parade of Rods (Houma) at the Ramada Inn, 1400 West Tunnel Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. May 24-26; Houma Oilmen’s Fishing Invitational (Houma) at the headquarters in the Harbor Light Marina in Cocodrie. A portion of proceeds from the two-day event benefit area charities. For more info: (985) 872-0757.


May 25; Downtown Live After 5 (Houma) at the Courthouse Square in Downtown Houma, from 6 to 10 p.m. Sponsored by Downtown businesses and Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, the event is free. Foods and beverages will be sold. For more info: (985) 873-6408.


May 26-28; Morgan City Power Boat Association Atchafalaya Eastern Divisionals (Morgan City) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Lake Palourde Parkway. The 1 ¼- mile course will host 13 classes of racing including 1.5 Stock, 2.5 Modified, Grand National Hydros, KRR, 1 Liter, 5 Liters, Super Stock, 2.5 Stock, National Mod, Pro Stock, G.P. and Cracker Box. May 28; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5097 Memorial Day Service (Thibodaux) beginning at noon, at Heroes Park on Talbot Avenue. The event is free to the public and will feature speakers and music in honor of the nation’s fallen soldiers. For more info: (985) 447-9804.

Throughout May; Historic Thibodaux Walking Tours (Thibodaux) at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve, 314 St. Mary St., at 2 p.m. daily. For more info: (985) 448-1375.

Throughout May; Explore Bayou Lafourche by Boat (Thibodaux) at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve, 314 St. Mary St. On Sundays and Mondays, cruise to Madewood Plantation, a restored plantation home. The $28 price includes lunch in the formal dining room and a tour of the plantation. Tours leave at 10 a.m. and return at 2 p.m. On Saturdays, visit the E.D. White Historic Site, home of a former U.S. Supreme Court chief justice. The $10 trip includes a guided walk. The Lafourche leaves at 10 a.m. and returns at 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required.
