Attention fishing fans: The Krewe of Bayou Petit Caillou is holding a fishing rodeo from July 12-13.

Krewe club member and event chairman Alvin Luke said the event is open to anyone.

“There are no restrictions on entry,” he said. “Tickets are $15, and the tournament is open to anyone who wants to participate.”

The $15 entry price includes fishing, as well as a meal on Sunday, Luke said.

The fishing rodeo takes place at the Ward 7 Citizen’s Center on Louisiana Highway 57 in Chauvin. The weigh stations are also being set up at the site from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

A family affair, the Krewe of Bayou Petit Caillou’s fishing rodeo also includes a children’s category.

“We have prizes for the top three finishers in both categories – adult and children,” Luke said.

The first prize adult winner will take home $100. Second prize wins a 70-quart ice chest, while third place wins a 50-quart ice chest.

The top finisher in the youth division receives a rod-and-reel; second place gets a life jacket. A third prize, which has yet to be determined will be awarded.

Luke said each division has various categories of catches. The adult division has 13, and the children’s division has six different fishing categories.

All proceeds benefit the Krewe of Petit Caillou.
