High school football will begin to cool off in the upcoming weeks, but action on the painted hardwood is just starting to heat up for area hoop teams that will be participating in the Terrebonne Parish High School Basketball Jamboree.

Boys’ and girls’ teams from Terrebonne, Ellender, H.L. Bourgeois, South Terrebonne, Central Catholic and Morgan City will compete Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8 and 9, at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

Action begins both days at 6 p.m.

“It (civic center) is a larger venue,” said South Terrebonne boys’ coach Greg Cook. “A lot more people will come out to this event and it gives the kids the feeling of playing in a much larger arena.”

Cook is in charge of coordinating this season’s jamboree for the boys’ teams, which play exclusively on Thursday evening. Terrebonne is organizing the girls’ bracket, which will be held Wednesday.

Each year, a different participating school takes over the reins.

“A lot of the (boys) teams will still have a lot of their guys playing football,” Cook said. “But it’s a good experience for the teams because kids really look forward to these jamborees because they like being able to play in front of their friends and most of the community shows up.”

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $4 for students. For more info, call (985) 850-4657.
