Have a burning desire to be in the spotlight? Are you high school age or younger? Great news, there are a couple of opportunities this summer to develop your skills.

“Krazy Kamp: The Musical” is the show planned for Summer 2011. Written by Tim Kelly, with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, the show finds Camp John Smith in trouble. The boys’ camp directors are destined for “a real job” unless they can get the camp in shape. But the “gentlemen” of John Smith need a place to stay until things get put back together.

Enter Camp Pocahontas, the fashionable girls’ site, which gives the boys a temporary home. The teaming of the two groups, however, creates a topsy-turvy affair, made even more eventful when a parade of characters wander into camp, including a poison ivy victim who resembles a mummy.

Camp is open to youngsters ages 8 (by August) through 15. Rehearsals are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at “Temple” on Caroline Street, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and Fridays at Jean Lafitte Theatre, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The play runs June 22-26 at the Jean Lafitte Theatre.

The camp fee is $75. For more information, contact Erica Annis at ericaannis@gmail.com.

SoLA Center for the Arts’ drama camp performs “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” July 29-31.

The theatre program is open to youngsters age 7 to high school age. The fee for the program is $260, and the registration fee is $15. The deadline to register is June 17.

SoLA director Anna Roberts said the camp is designed to teach youngsters the basics of readying a production for the stage, theater direction, how to harmonize, singing as a group, choreography, voice, projection, stage combat, stage movement and pantomime, improvisation characterization and stage crafts.

Sessions will be held weekdays July 5-28, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
