Gumbo Staff Report

The Laurel Valley Fall Festival will once again be held on the namesake’s plantation on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be arts and crafts, a Cajun lunch, drinks and homemade sweets available for sale.

Antique tractors, cars and machinery and Civil War Cannoneers will be on the grounds for visitors to enjoy.

The festival will feature demonstrations of wood carving, chair caning, quilting, cypress shingle making, oil painting and rosary making.

There will also be a number of children’s activities to keep the little ones happy.

Admission to the Fall Festival is free and proceeds go toward perserving Laurel Valley, the largest surviving American sugar cane plantation complex.

Laurel Valley is located two miles below Thibodaux on Highway 308.

Cajun crafters interested in participating in the festival or for more information, call Paul Leslie at (985) 447-5216, (985) 414-3456 or (985) 446-7456.
