Tickets for the much-anticipated five-week performance of Disney’s “The Lion King,” which opens at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans March 14, are selling fast.

Produced by Disney Theatrical Products, “The Lion King” premiered on Broadway in 1997 and won six 1998 Tony Awards: best musical, best scenic design, best costume design, best lighting design, best choreography and best direction of a musical.

More than 60 million people have seen 18 global productions of the musical, which has grossed more than $4.6 billion.

Officials say tickets are selling quickly and extra showings are being considered.

Tickets can be purchased in-person at the theatre box office, via phone at 1-800-982-2787, through Ticketmaster or online at www.broadwayinneworleans.com. They have been on sale, at prices as low as $30.25, since Nov. 12.
