GUMBO STAFF REPORT

Audubon Zoo is throwing a party – Cajun style!

The zoo is the site for the 23rd annual Louisiana Swamp Fest on Saturday, Nov. 3, and Sunday, Nov. 4. The family-style festival features Cajun cuisine, Cajun and Zydeco music, cultural demonstrators and one-of-a-kind crafts, according to organizers.

Top restaurants and caterers will serve soft shell crab po-boys, seafood corn macque choux, fried eggplant with crawfish cream sauce, red beans and rice, chicken and andouille gumbo, spinach and crawfish bread bowl and oyster po-boys among others.

For kids who haven’t developed their Cajun palates just yet, hot dogs and hamburgers will also be on the menu.

Among the crafts, visitors will find oil paintings reflecting Louisiana life, beaded jewelry, jewelry, jams and preserves, candles and paintings on driftwood.

And the cultural demonstrations to be showcased at the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit include wood-carving, basket weaving, a silversmith and fiber spinning.

Of course, no Swamp Fest would be complete without music, and the zoo’s party won’t disappoint. On three stages, festival-goers will hear the likes of the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band, Rockin’ Doopsie, Amanda Shaw, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet and others.

Admission to the zoo is $12 for adults, $7 for children ages 2-12 and $9 for seniors age 65 or older.
