The City of Morgan City is celebrating its 150th birthday and you’re invited.

City Councilman Larry Bergeron, who is serving as chairman of the event, said daily tours at historic churches – Sacred Heart, Trinity Episcopal and Pharr Methodist Chapel – begin at 1:15 p.m. and are offered throughout the month. Those interested in taking a tour should visit the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival office at 715 Second St.

Morgan City is the only Tri-parish city to host The Moving Wall: A Vietnam Memorial Tribute, beginning Thursday, Dec. 2, at 8 a.m. The replica of the Washington, D.C., tribute will be in town for four days.

On Friday, Dec. 3, the Marine Corps Band N.O. will perform a special concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium. The event benefits the annual Toys for Tots Tour campaign.

A candlelight closing ceremony will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. to remember and honor soldiers killed while serving America.

“Morgan City will be the only city to host the Vietnam tribute in December,” Bergeron said. “The wall will actually enter the state with a special motorcycle escort to herald its arrival.”

On Dec. 4, Morgan City hosts Santa’s Block Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on downtown Front Street.

Santa will visit, and everyone’s sure to enjoy the Santa Paws dog parade.
